Leading from the Center to Better Erie

I want to share my perspective on partisanship and where it belongs in local issues. My focus is exclusively on what’s best for the residents of Erie, putting our needs above my own or special/political interests. As someone who, like more than half of Erie, is registered as an independent, I see our local elections as a dialogue about local issues, not an opening to force national politics into our community. This mayoral election offers two distinct options. If you desire partisan politics to govern our local decision-making and leaders who are endlessly pressured to “fall in line” with their political party’s priorities, you’ll need to look for another candidate.

I served for six years as the Mayor of Erie, so you can look at my record versus campaign superlatives. Some may call my previous accomplishments of investing in community amenities like the building of the Erie Community Center, championing the Erie Open Space and Trails funding, and working to change state laws so our library could be built to lean a little “left.” Others may say my fiscal discipline that allowed us to navigate the Great Recession, an initiative to establish the first bond rating through S&P and Moody, and creating regulation simplification through our first unified development code (UDC) leans a little “right.” But to me, none of that matters. The best decision for our community is one that considers the many, is financially viable, and is good for Erie in the long term.

One of my proudest achievements as CIO at Boulder Valley School District was launching ConnectME (My Education). This initiative closed the digital divide by providing free internet to kids in need through a public/private partnership that didn’t cost taxpayers a dime. It shows that when we come together, we can find innovative solutions, regardless of which way one leans.

My ability to collaborate with diverse views has earned me endorsements from numerous elected officials, colleagues, and residents across the political spectrum. This includes all former Erie mayors since I left office -- Mayor Carroll, Mayor Harris, and Mayor Wilson. This consensus is particularly noteworthy, as these former mayors, who collectively led Erie for over 12 years, had significant political differences. It's a testament to the unity we can achieve in our diversity.

Your support and feedback are crucial in this campaign. I appreciate you taking the time to read this, and I’d love to hear your thoughts. Let's work together to shape Erie's future.

Warmly,

Andrew Moore
