In a recent survey of Erie residents, approximately 80% of residents support an outdoor aquatic complex. That is an incredible consensus! I recognize that advancing a project like this in the short term may be challenging, given Erie currently has a budget problem. However, we must keep investing in our community with your input at the forefront, which has made Erie the absolute best place to live and raise a family in Colorado.
I’ve been exploring an innovative approach through a public-private partnership that could help secure some funding while unlocking the economic potential of land in the vicinity of the Erie airport, but from a safe and healthy distance for air quality and other environmental considerations. This location could be a perfect spot for an outdoor community center and pool—imagine a space that celebrates aviation, with features like a kiddie pool shaped like an airplane and passes designed like airline tickets.
This could provide a unique connection between our municipal airport and our community.
My experience with public-private partnerships has shown me their potential for positive change. One of my proudest achievements as the CIO at Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) was closing the digital divide through a program called ConnectME (My Education). It continues to provide free internet to children in need through a public-private partnership that costs taxpayers nothing. I genuinely believe we can find creative solutions together.
What are your thoughts? What other creative ideas do you have?
Thank you for your continued support and involvement. Together, we can ensure a bright future for Erie.
