On Tuesday, October 8, 2024 with the thinnest of margins—only four votes—the Mayor pushed through his ultra-high-density growth plan by adopting the town's most important growth document: the Comprehensive Plan update.
Make no mistake: This election is a referendum on any hope of maintaining Erie's small-town feel versus the unbridled ultra-high-density growth of the current leadership.
Counselors Sawasch and Bell tried to continue the discussion until after the election but were voted down by the Mayor and his squad of four. District 1 candidate John Mortellaro did an excellent job articulating the issues with increasing the densities by over 50%, but it fell on deaf ears.
This matters because Erie already suffers from traffic congestion coming into and out of Erie, so the more density approved, the more traffic issues we will face. Until Erie figures out how to fund the widening of our most critical roads, I am not in support of increasing new development densities by over 50%.
I ask for your visible support as your next Mayor so we can repeal this ludicrous growth plan and make the necessary adjustments to Ensure Erie's Future.
With appreciation,
Andrew
